NO MORE YMCA it’s only THE Y. Y? only THE Y? Because the name Young Men’s CHRISTIAN Association offends some people. Just when you thought you’d heard it all.  Make you wish for ‘It’s a wonderful life’ like days

    The reason for the change is not that it offends; it is due to the fact that in the being of the YMCA history it was privately funded without any government input or help. Over the years the YMCA and YWCA have stuggled to continue to provide the help in the areas of housing, food programs and child care as public donations dwindled. The YMCA board made a choice to apply for and accept government grants. In order to be qualified for gov grants you can not be affilatied with any religious organization.

    The Salvation Army is the largest and oldest Christian based organization in the USA not being controlled by the government.

    The Y is still providing a great service they’re just not able to THANK GOD FOR IT.
