If the American Flag offends you, I’ll be happy to help you pack! Today is Flag Day…the one day given solely to the very banner that symbolizes and represents everything good about this great nation: our freedoms, our perseverence, our prosperity, our potential. Raise her high, and show her respect…long may she wave over this great land we call the United States of America!!!

To local veterans, Flag Day is a time to remember what America’s symbol stands for.“It’s a symbol of the U.S. It’s a symbol of the military. It’s the hugest symbol that we have,” said Tim Cliffe, senior trustee with the DeKalb American Legion Post 66.Flag Day honors the creation of the American flag. On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress established a national flag for the United States, incorporating red, white and blue.Red stands for hardiness and courage, white represents purity and innocence, and blue stands for vigilance and justice.

But it wasn’t until 1912 that all American flags had a uniform appearance, with a standard size, shape and display for every flag.
