Birdy Feathers and the Case of the Missing Thread!!!
By dave • Aug 30th, 2008 • Category: Articlesi felt like i needed to include this in the thread…just to add to the drama…
so…basically…here’s a rundown, from what i can gather has happened.
Kat made a post, which appears to have included information that she probably got in an email.
we’ve all gotten those emails. my relatives send them to me regularly…obama hates america…obama is a muslim…obama won’t say the pledge of allegiance…obama kills kittens and eats puppies.
from what i can tell, about 90% of them are complete BS, and a simple visit to Snopes.com is all it takes to clear up any confusion about the validity of the email, whether it is about Obama or any other number of subjects.
however, many times, we tend to see something that strikes a nerve, and we feel like sharing it immediately, without taking the time to investigate a bit further. i’m as guilty of it as anyone.
so, that’s what it looks like happened.
Kat posted something, and the comments came pouring in. now, somewhere along the way, someone acutally struck-through the comments of another poster.
first off, i have NO idea who did that. comments can be edited, and that type of markup can be added, but that’s a first for me. i actually had forgotten that wordpress even had that option.
so, whoever did the striking-through, that’s definitely not acceptable. that falls right in line with deleting someone’s comments. that is ONLY to be done by an ADMIN (me or dhunley) and ONLY under extreme circumstances.
secondly, as i’ve now addressed the issue in a comment on the “time out” post, PLEASE refrain from deleting a post that has comments attached to it. if you make a post and decide later that you want to kill it, please just edit the original post and insert your reason for removing the original text, but leave the comments section alive.
i DO have the ability to dig into the database and pull out deleted stuff, but to tell you the truth, i really don’t want to have to mess with that. i just don’t have the extra time to be digging around and doing that sort of thing, ok?
so…i’m adding back in the comments that were posted to the original thread, but i am not reposting what kat had written. she decided that she no longer wanted it to be seen (i presume?), and deleted it, so i will respect her wishes to take that post away, but this way, you folks can still see the comments that were made.
a big thank you to the person who had the foresight to see there could be trouble brewing and saved these…

August 29th, 2008 at 3:23 am Well he might just fit the shoes of Lincoln and FDR, but he can never fill the shoes of JFK.
Just in case some haven’t figured it out, that was a non-racist remark, but I don’t think too
highly of old (dis)Honest Abe or FDR.
My reasons have been discussed before, but I will publish them on the anything pages
some time in the near future.

Last week, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had just announced record losses, and so had most reporting corporations. Unemployment was mounting, the foreclosure crisis was deepening, state budgets were in shambles, and massive bailouts were everywhere. Investors had every reason to expect the dollar and the stock market to plummet, and gold and oil to shoot up. Strangely, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 300 points, the dollar strengthened, and gold and oil were crushed. What happened?
It hardly took psychic powers to see that the Plunge Protection Team had come to the rescue. Formally known as the President’s Working Group on Financial Markets, the PPT was once concealed and its very existence denied as if it were a matter of strict national security. But the PPT has now come out of the closet. What was once a legally questionable “manipulator” of markets has become a sanctioned stabilizer and protector of markets.

I RECEIVED this as an EMAIL and posted what I received. This is not something I edited and took ’snippets’ out of, you silly little goose. Thar always has to be one in the bunch that refuses to take their med’s and play well with others. As for McCain’s choice today, talk about ‘SHOCK AND AWE’. Couldn’t have been more shocked. Never heard of her, can’t pass judgement on someone I don’t know about. I personally think he just shot himself in the foot. I don’t know her but picking a female as a VP choice failed in the passed with Geraldine Ferraro. I think either way, we’re screwed. Why is it they have 50 contestants for Miss America but only 2 for President? NO! Of Course, I don’t expect it to hold water! Heck, I CAN’T EVEN HOLD WATER! Why would I expect anything else to?
7. straighttalk Says:
August 29th, 2008 at 10:06 pm I am truly upset with the apparent lining thru of comments made by wthareyouthinking. If this is what Rowan Review is all about, allowing this kind of intimidation, then let rowan review fold. Let this media go to waste. I will not post or respond if my ideas are not at least left to be read and digested without interference. I support wthareyouthinking and their ideas.
8. nighthawk Says:
August 29th, 2008 at 11:37 pm Was that bubbaobama.com link even a part of the original comment?
How are we to know that straighttalk (or anyone else for that matter) isn’t Dave or DHunley
coming aboard to inspect ship (so to speak…)?
What was the real point of crossing out wthareyouthinking’s comment in the first place?
If you look back both Straighttalk and myself have been into a heavy debate over the
effectiveness of Operation UNITE, but you don’t see me editing or deleting his comments.
We have went head to head and verbally locked horns a couple of times, but I haven’t
even thought of editing his opinions in any way. Instead, I have been attempting to encourage
him to voice more of his opinion. As I am sure that straighttalk and myself meet in the middle.
It’s just a method of trying to sort out those things that we agree upon.
And with this issue of lining through a comment, I have to agree with straighttalk.
It doesn’t mean that I exactly agree with wthareyouthinking’s comment, but he does have
the right to voice his opinion and have it left unaltered.
9. nighthawk Says:
August 30th, 2008 at 12:26 am Was there anything racist/aggressive/hateful/vulgur about wthareyouthinking’s comment that I missed or something?
I know the amendments to The Rules of Engagement (known as the article titled “Time Out”) allow for an Author to edit comments, but there are strict circumstances to be observed before editing another’s comments.
10. wthareyouthinking Says:
August 30th, 2008 at 9:52 am So, who lined through my comment?
This is not a site for debate?
No other opinions but YOURS count?
Then why have a site at all? Just sit at home and lecture all your BS to yourself.
I DEFINITELY did not strike through my comment, just so everyone knows.
Apparently, I am not free to participate in this little forum.
This is silly.
11. wthareyouthinking Says:
August 30th, 2008 at 10:01 am I did NOT strike through my comment and I definitely did NOT link to some website I’ve never heard of.
THis is not an equal opportunity forum, I take it?

August 30th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
how’s that???
August 30th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Thanks for putting those comments back Dave. I wouldn’t have cared if you reposted the email I received. Just someone getting their shorts in twist and acting like I’m the one that wrote it when I was just passing along info for discussion. All I know how to do is make the writing bold on the Scanner Scoop. Since we went from the old system to the new one I’m still lost and if you look it tells you to tell your administ. that there is even another updated version! YIKES!

August 30th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Hey Dave, since you’re on here right now, how come we didn’t have a charity event this year? I really missed that. It really helped out so many in the community.
August 30th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Oh! I just got it! Bird feathers! Cat/Kat! LOL Sorry, bit slow thar, originally a blonde.
August 30th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Well that clears up some of MY questions, thanks;
TO me it seems like a minor thing to strike through a remark
rather than censor it, I have seen that done in the past to
correct things but in this case the "newer particpant" was
clearly offended, at least it can still be read.
As opposed to completely obliterated or deleted.
I too have no idea how to "code" in such stuff.
We are told by the forebearers that designed our
system of government, the one we’re supposed to be
patriotic to, that we are not to trust it, or our leaders,
SO the question, can we trust "[Barry Hussein]"
is a loaded question, NO, we are not supposed to
trust politicians or the government, the "mechanics"
of the system said not to.

kat…
not sure where dhunley has been. i like to imagine that the thoughts of a complete change to having the Democrats in power has sent him running for the hills, but that’s probably not it.
he actually came by to stir things up a bit over at morganminute.com a while back, but then went away again, as quietly as he’d slipped in.
i think that dhunley, like me, has been too busy working his real job, so that’s probably a part of the reason…just not having the time to devote to the site and activities related to it.
it is a shame, really…as much as we disagree with each other, it does seem quite empty still, without him around.

I don’t think bubbaobama.com was a part of the original post.
After seeing the strikeout occurrence and inquiring about this,
I received an answer of:
"I definitely did NOT link to some website I’ve never heard of."
Up in comment #11

RVC: you re-quoted me as saying," Kat called him a "dork" another slang name for dick from what I always heard". That wasn’t even close to what I’ve EVER heard or was referring to. I meant like a dunst, dummy, nutty, choose your adjective. I would never called anyone the term you used. Just to clarify the record.
August 31st, 2008 at 11:49 am
LOL Dave! You and David do seem to be like me in some aspects…..you shore can get yer self into some do-zzzz’s of debates from time to time. Every Primary I vote Republican every General I vote for the person and their values not the party line. I’m still not sure which way to pull the trigger on this one. We are certainly living through one for the history books.
August 31st, 2008 at 12:19 pm
nighthawk…the email i received that had the contents of the post and the comments did include that link to bubbaobama…
i can forward to you exactly what i received last night, so you can check it out. i just copied and pasted what i got.
if that person did NOT add that link, then i have no idea where it came from.
i’m also not sure about the striking out of the text…i know an author of a post can edit their post, but i’m not sure if they can also edit the comments.
August 31st, 2008 at 12:58 pm
An author can edit comments in their own thread/topic/discussion/article but the commenter can’t unless the commenter is the author.
I had to install this stuff locally to get a feel for it.
Still it remains a mystery of how the link and strikeout got there to me.
Kat says that she didn’t do it, and I believe her.
Might be something to bring up in the WordPress forums?
I suspect that someone may have guessed at her password and got in that way, but if you look
through the logs you might see things like:
"GET /?’;DeCLARE%20@S%20CHAR(4000);SET%20@S=CAST(0×444543…"
which I had been assuming to be a PHPBB hack, but I can’t find a single person who
knows what those type of log entries are.
Of course I haven’t checked over at packettstorm or the other dark edges yet.
August 31st, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Up above ^ I should have started that out as "An author has the ability to…" instead of "An author can…".
August 31st, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Sorry, I have no idea how to start a new discussion (or if I’m allowed to! :)). But has anybody heard anything about a break in at the Clearfield Grade School last night? Thanks!
August 31st, 2008 at 10:27 pm
I haven’t heard anything about a "break in", but the sheriff has been checking cars and keeping people out of the parking lot (after dark) lately.
All you need to do if you want to become an author (and start new discussions) is to
register here: http://rowanreview.com/wp-login.php?action=register if you haven’t already.
and then email Dave telling him that your interested in becoming an author.
But feel free to chime in and ask a question or just chat with us anywhere.

Yes, Clearfield Cat, PLEASE feel free to login and start talking up a storm. At least I can say, without getting into trouble with anyone else and probably a hearty AMEN, that the kitty litter needs changing and a breathe of fresh air, aka, another author, would sure help. Climb aboard and hang on! You’re more than welcome anytime. I haven’t been able to sleep for 2 days and won’t get any sleep until I wring hubby’s neck over the phone when HOPEFULLY he lands safely in Chicago tomorrow night. I’m up all hours calling the airline, checking online, etc., about any changes in flight schedules and the hurricane coming ashore. There is a lot of rain from the Hurricane still in Costa Rica right now and I don’t know how that will affect flight plans. Landing in Dallas around 2p.m. seems semi-ok, then leaving Dallas at 4:40, IF they are on time on to Chicago. Since I don’t have long distance on my phone and can’t find my overseas calling call I haven’t been able to reach him. If everything goes well, he should be home by 9-9:30p.m. tonight, Monday.
Yes, nighthawk, I’ve heard a lot of the same thing with the cops and a lot of cars being checked out. They have had some break-in’s lately. I think a couple weeks ago? 4 on Sun Street had their tires slashed.
No, Clearfield Cat, I didn’t hear anything about a break-in at Clearfield School last night. I did see a cop pull into the parking lot and check out two boys out running around late at night and just after dark I heard a cop say that Clearfield Elementary appeared 10-4. Didn’t see a cop no where near it when that was transmitted, unless he had just left.
September 1st, 2008 at 4:27 am
Does anyone know of any stores open tomorrow? Everywhere I look stores had signs up saying they were closed for Labor Day. Even the CoffeeTree. I need kitty litter and Mookie needs some too!
September 1st, 2008 at 4:37 am
Hey Dave, is this video the hillbilly version of Merr-a-kat Manor? LOL finally viewed it! Cute.
September 1st, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Thank you for whomever is responsible getting my comment reposted, such as it is.
Just for the record, I did NOT add the bubbaobama link to my post. .
It’s good to see that there is room for others’ opinions here.
And, for good measure, I’ll throw in that I’m not a dork, although I play one on TV.
September 1st, 2008 at 10:14 pm
wthareyouthinking…
i’m the admin here, and i was able to re-post the original list of comments thanks to a backup copy that i received.
i have NO idea how the bubbaobama link got in to your comment. i’m also not sure how the comment got the strike-through. it is very odd, and i’m just not sure what would have happened to cause that.
i don’t think it was a result of any kind of attack on the site, but i just cannot be sure about that yet.
anyway, this place is definitely open for opinions of all kinds, whether they jive with mine or not. now, that isn’t to say that you won’t have some people disagree with your opinions on here…lord knows i’ve received my fair share of abuse, mainly from the other admin, dhunley!
however, you’ll always be free to express yourself without any fear of censorship (well, short of foul language, hate speech, etc)…it is an open community here.
sometimes folks don’t tend to play nice and it gets a little messy, but so far, everyone seems to find a way to work out their differences and go on.
so, i’m glad you’re here to share your thoughts, and i’m sorry for whatever mixup caused the chaos on your comments.
on we go!
September 1st, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Okay, maybe I’m crazy, but did I post yesterday about an alleged break in at Clearfield Grade Saturday night? I can’t find the post! Maybe I didn’t and just dreamed that I did. Help please!
Thanks!!
September 1st, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Didn’t see it Clearfield Cat. Good comeback what’syathankin’ with the dork on tv comment. Cute. See, now I like those little smiley faces and I don’t even know how to get them on my postings! Poo! Just for the record, just spoke briefly with hubby dearest, back safely in Chicago, answered the phone and said he already had to go back out and down town to erase some gang signs sprayed on the bosses office building.
September 1st, 2008 at 11:26 pm
somebody tell me how to make the smiley faces on your postings? Please?
September 1st, 2008 at 11:29 pm
This is at the bottom of the page as I’m typing this, just below the SUBMIT COMMENT, it says:
Bad Behavior has blocked 4 access attempts in the last 7 days. ????? Does anyone else have that listed on theirs? Could that be what may have gone on with a post? Weird.
September 2nd, 2008 at 3:45 am
Clearfield Cat,
Your post/comment is just up above on this page (here).
Both Kat and myself replied to you. Click on the green (here) up above.
I gave you instructions on how to become an author.
If you need any help just give us a shout.
September 2nd, 2008 at 7:56 am
Bad Behavior is a new plugin I installed, just last night. it is being used to help shut down the constant spam attack that this site (and morganminute.com) are under.
the spammers are a crafty bunch, and even with the filtering protocols i have set up on both sites, lately, spam has been sneaking through over on MorganMinute.
BadBehavior attempts to analyze any visits by these automated “spambots” and blocks them before they can even attempt to post a comment.
so, again, no conspiracies…lol…just trying to help keep the site spam-free.
September 2nd, 2008 at 8:14 am
I think the simplicity but effectiveness of Bad Behavior is rather unique, and it doesn’t tax the system any at all. Good Choice there Dave.
I suspect they probably already have several new releases on the shelf and ready to go when/if the spammers finally figure out how it works.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Thanks for the info on the ‘Bad Behavior’ thingy Dave. Hope it works!
September 2nd, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Clearfield Cat,
Apparently there WAS a break in at the Clearfield School as information is slowly being released into the public domain.
It might however take a FOIA action to get all of the details.
September 2nd, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Thanks Nighthawk. I heard this from a friend of my mother’s, she’s usually is very unreliable. What does FOIA stand for?
September 2nd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
I guess I’m already registered here since it said my user name and email were unavailable. I’m so not a techno person!
September 3rd, 2008 at 3:38 am
FOIA stands for Freedom Of Information Act.
Surely they don’t expect us to believe somebody broke in but didn’t take anything.

How are we to know that our identities or the identities of our children wasn’t stolen?
September 7th, 2008 at 8:19 am
Dave, seeing as you are back, maybe you could help Clearfield Cat in becoming an Author.
Seems as if there is an issue that I can’t help with here.
