What in the WORLD were they thinking??
By dave • Aug 8th, 2008 • Category: Opinions and EditorialsOK, we need some fresh stuff to gripe about on here, so I’m going to kick it off with a couple of topics…this one, and my KFC rant below.
I want to know what in the world they are going to do with the very large and unsightly “development” along the connector, there on the right, just before you get to Sears/China Palace plaza.
That HUGE hole is just a mess…it isn’t finished…nobody is ever going to buy a lot there…any thoughts??
DISCUSSS!!

Dave, I think what the ‘powers that be’ are trying to do is turn the interstate area into a mini version of Pigon Forge. Strip malls from one end to the other. It is already so congested in that area, no wonder there are so many accidents in the Lewis Place area.

Maybe they will open a new recreational area up out in that area for RV/Camper Trailers?
Sorta like Rodburn Park since it’s so close to the Sheltowee Trace and all.
Seeing that the county already owns the old 84 lumber land, a privacy fence and a little
work in the woods could provide for such a place maybe. Granted that I don’t know exactly
how much land the county owns in that specific spot, or if any woodlands is included in the
county’s land out there.
But at least one existing trail connects that area to Rodburn Hollow Recreation Area.
It would be nice of them to open Rodburn back up for camping too, maybe establishing
a good well maintained trail between the two recreational areas.
That is IF they decide to put in a new RV park near the interstate.
Maybe that Pigon Forge idea wouldn’t be too bad, or (what’s the name of that little tourist trap down around Somerset?) Renfro Vally type place could be established at the Carl Perkins Center site. Making room for another tourist trap exclusive for Cave Run Lake visitors in the 801 Farmers/Sharkey Road Area that the city has wanted to annex so badly for so long.
The little tri-county or bi-county recreation facility for youths (that was planned) just isn’t going to attract many out of state people.
An amusement park of some kind or some type of entertainment venue needs put into that
specific area to promote use of that big new airport as well. A "Fake" historic Rail Road and/or resurrection of the old Tombstone Junction park from the gorge area might be some
ideas for that area. Something people will travel to see in addition to Cave Run Lake as an extra for those who enjoy boating and fishing while visiting the other attractions.
Geez! I’m starting to sound like one of them!!!
No I’m Not! They Aren’t That Ingenuitically Inclined.

The hole is an interesting mess. My guess ( somewhat educated ) is that the developers have spent close to $3 million on ‘the hole’. I think at some point some one will build there. It is kind of like Hickory Pointe. It took a while but homes did get built. But if the developers of the hole can recoup their money remains to be seen. I don’t understand their reasoning. My personal belief is that it is a project gone sour.

Didn’t the dynamite damage some houses and a pool over the hill up
Knapp Avenue, maybe that halted it, along with the real estate
and credit crunch, and the non-resession.

Travel around easturn cantuck and in various communities you will see these
“holes” open up and sit for 2-8-10yrs and something finally goes in
and then something else. Morehead has to go up on the ridges
as there is not much unused or available real estate close to
town. Look at Pigeon Forge or Ashville,
Houses all over where ever there is a spot on the side of a hill
to build even on stilts, eventually with continued growth we
will see that here. There is allready water towers and roads up
to lots on some of the ridges around the H.S and town.

Yeah, I’m sure that we might have a couple of could-be interested investors reading…
Or if not… I’m sure word will get around soon enough

Anyone have any idea what the “bail-out” cost would cost?
Does that lot have any hilltop with it?
Would Airport Zoning Regs stop or permit the construction of a radio tower on that hilltop?
We live in the middle of the new “Broadcasters Paradise” when you think about it…
Man! Wouldn’t that spot make a great location for a “Broadcast Plaza” or something?!!
Wonder how many “Fringe Areas” could be hit from that hilltop?…
How many stations can be served from a single channel digitally?
How many stations can utilize the same antenna?
How many antennas will a tower hold? (sort of a trick question eh?)
Rent translator space from the “Broadcast Plaza”?
What’s the minimum investment to get in on this deal?
I gots to get busy selling pencils and free ink pens with the writing rubbed off!!!!!

Well a family member died this week so condolences to them.
Unless we go into a world wide permanent economic depression
I would expect to see some one develop that sooner or later.
IF nothing gets put in, in 20years the jungle will vine back over it
and it will look almost as natural as it did as a filled in area before
the latest work.
