Morehead didn’t need another KFC building

By dave • Aug 8th, 2008 • Category: Opinions and Editorials

In my opinion, the old building probably stayed up longer than it needed to.

On several occasions, that place was just a total MESS inside.  The tables smelled like spoiled milk, the floor was greasy and slick, and the food was mediocre at best.

Lee’s has been kicking their butts for a while now.

Will that continue with the new KFC, or will they take a little pride and keep it in top shape?

I’ve never been inside KFC but several have told me that they never got the chicken completely cooked. They liked Lee’s better because it was done where KFC was sometimes still raw inside. Yuck.

I think the reason behind new one is Yum Brands wanted all the KFC’s to look the same.It was cheaper to rebuild than remodel.Yum owms KFC,Long John’sTaco Bell, and I think Pizza Hut.

Thanks for the info Scott. I know in Chicago there was a KFC/Taco Bell near our house. Kinda like A&W and Long John Silvers here now. Personally I miss the Grounds and Sounds. Good music, good food, nice relaxing atmosphere, with free ghosts! What more could one ask for!

The Morehead Taco Bell manager told me that the ‘powers that be’, are considering having a 24/7 Taco Bell with items like Breakfast Burrito’s, etc. Since they are already the earliest to open at 10a.m. and latest to close on the weekends at 3a.m. they might as well stay open 24/7. I think someone said the Huddle House is open all the time, I haven’t been there so I don’t know.

I would hope that the new KFC will be OK. Their chicken is actually better than Lee’s but we have been going to Lee’s because of the condition of the old KFC. I think it is a nice addition to the downtown area and wish them the best.

The few times we have been to KFC the chicken was dripping with grease and cold. But then I haven’t been in probably 2 years. lol

New KFC is pretty good for now.

  9. Clearfield Cat Says:

Thanks Scott! I’ll have to give it a try this weekend.

I haven’t tried the new KFC yet but will before long. It looks nice and as I said earlier and their chicken really is good. I wish them the best.

I once worked for a fellow ( this is many years ago ) who ate many times at the original resturant operated by Col. Sanders located in Somerset I believe. He said that Col. Sanders would be in the resturant everytime he was there and would come to the tables to serve iced tea/drinks and make sure that everyone was enjoying their meal. My fellow worker ate there so many times that he and Col. Sanders knew each other on a first name basis. He told me this story back in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s when KFC was for the most part in it’s infancy. Of course we folks in Kentucky know that a guy named John Y Brown got the idea to franchise the concept and the rest is history. Col. Sanders did not start in the business until he was in his 60’s I believe.

WELL I went thru the drive thru which I never do and
the "tender roast" sandwidch I got was COLD and rubbery and
I asked for no mayo and it was slathered on, They don’t have
plain mustard, but they "can give you some ‘mustard sause’?"
what the heck a 500,000dollar resturaunt that can only afford
2 packs of catsup/katsup for your wedges and no mustard?
My first experience with the "new" KFC and it could be my last.

By the way you can reduce fat and or carbs and calories on
alot of these sandwiches and wraps by ordering it without them
    and substitute mustard,

  12. [(Required Voluntary Compliance)] Says:

In my case it didn’t work but when you order a sandwich special
alot of the time they have to make it fresh and cant give you one
"off the line" but in the case metioned above we were tired at the
end of the day, I was driving and by the time I got down the street and
through the traffic light took a bite, I just ate it cold and
sad. SO I didn’t complain or go back, I would say stuff like that
happens alot, over the years I have seen it both ways folks go
back and gripe or just go on and don’t go back.

  13. Kat Says:

I always order my sandwiches plain and tons of onions, that way it’s fresh and as you said, not off the line. I love Subways whole wheat veggie sub with just light touch of oil and vinegar. Of course, the bread, even whole wheat is loaded with carbs, which of course, turn straight to sugar.

The new kentucky fried chicken is great!
    it’s about time!

Ate at the KFC twice now got the chicken sandwich and the bread was dried out and so was the chicken. There was tons of brown lettuce and a dab of mayo. I went thru the drive thru and had to wait to get it because the girl at the window could not use the register because the other guy was logged on it and she didn’t have his number so of course I had to sit there and wait long line behind me, ear pieces for drive thru don’t work so they can’t hear lots of problems. Very unorganized!!!!!! By the time I got to eat COLD!!! DRY!!!! I think I will just stick to my all time favorite Lee’s!!!!
