Historic Haldeman School Burns Down

Around 4 a.m. on Friday Sept 28th several units responded to a call of the old Haldeman School being on fire. As you can see from the pictures, the school built in 1937 was gutted by the blaze.
These pictures were taken about 11 hours after the fire was reported. The State Fire Marshall was on hand and it is being investigated as an arson. This is a great loss to the Haldeman/Hayes Crossing area residents.

it would be sad to think that someone would deliberatly set this building on fire. its one of the last historic buildings that hasn’t been torn down for apartments or something. it wont be long we wont have anything to show about the history around here.

Thanks pseudonomen for putting those up for me. It is truly very sad to see yet another piece of Rowan’s History go up in smoke just like “curt07″ said. I was last in that school 33 years ago as a member of the Clearfield Volleyball Team playing Haldeman. What a shame.

I took pictures of Jerry’s being demoed yesterday and thought of putting them up here but figured the would have it and they did but of course it’s blurred, as usual, and so is the pic on the next page of Haldeman’s door. I have that exact pic and will put them up later tonight clear and for free. I fail to understand why they can’t print a clear unblurred picture.

I typed in the Morehead SNEWS and in caps and it didn’t show up. Hummmm… the above should have said, “but figured the MOREHEAD SNEWS would have it”, etc.

Haldeman School Project meeting at VFD on uS60 @ Hayescrossing tues. 12/4/07 to update on non-profit status effort to make a community center reconstruct the old school &preserve it for future use. Contact L. Dean

The school did not completly burn down as this thread is labeled.
Meeting is at 7pm.
(Kat, I played Basketball there 29yrs ago) The Gym is still intact & useable, needs cleaned, painted & polished, the 1st goal is to put trusses over the old section & a roof the newer classroom section will likely be demo-ed as to reduce maintainence costs(& Fire Risks?).
