It’s Hilarious! A Social Studies Professor suggesting someone doesn’t live in the “real world”.

By dhunley • Aug 16th, 2007 • Category: Articles

I don’t suppose I should be surprised that the Lexington Herald-Leader managed to find a narrow-minded, blinkered individual to present what THEY want to present.  And I suppose I should be even less surprised that they found this narrow-minded, blinkered individual in the field of “social studies”—after all, that particular field of “studies” is absolutely FILLED with such individuals. And they found a perfect match with a Mr. William Turner of

Berea
College.

On Monday, August 13th, the Lexington-Hearld Leader ran a front page story that featured my native county.  It seems that Magoffin is tied with a county in
Iowa as being the “whitest” county in the nation.

This prompted Mr. Turner—who was recently appointed to an endowed chair in Appalachian studies at

Berea
College—to say:

“A county like that needs to do something, if no more than import lecturers and programs, to introduce people to the fact that you are living in a very unreal world here”.

Oh reeeeeeaaaaaalllly, Mr. Turner.  Are you suggesting no one in Magoffin travels anywhere?  Are you suggesting we can’t read?  Are you suggesting we can’t comprehend what we see on T.V.?  Are you suggesting that we’re so ignorant up here in these backwoods that we couldn’t possibly understand the “real world” unless it was explained to us by a minority?

Would YOU be considered to live in the real world if you had never met an Aborigine?  Or a citizen of the U.A.E.? Or a citizen of
Taiwan?  How about a Chamorro? Or a Samoan?  Or someone of pure Hawaiian descent? I have…and still, my world is no more or less “real” than it was as I was being raised

Magoffin
County.

It should astound any clear thinking person to hear such muddled minded thinking from someone given a “chair” in any program.  But then again, any clear thinking person will realize this was from a “social studies professor” and probably won’t be astounded at all.

The real irony is that Mr. Turner is promoting something he’d never admit to; Mr. Turner is promoting racism…pure and simple.

The whole intent of people like Mr. Turner and those who jabber about multiculturalism is to try to devalue the concept of the individual…to place people in some category as if they were merely an “item” or organism to be classified.

A clear thinking individual—ESPECIALLY someone who has devoted a significant portion of their lives studying social issues—should see that the whole concept of “culture” should just die.

i do see your point in a way on this, dh…however, i also sort of see what he was saying, even if he did a p*ss poor job of saying it.

i grew up, and live in, morgan county, and it is pretty “white”, and was VERY much so when i was growing up. if they’d made a list back then, i would imagine it would have been up there pretty high. at that time, the only way we ever really saw any people of any other race was on TV or if you made the rare trip to somewhere like lexington, but at that time, it seems like we just didn’t travel around as much as we do now, so it was pretty much TV or nothing at all.

i can remember when the first african american student started school in morgan county. i was a junior in high school. it was a new experience for everyone at the school, and i was always nervous that someone was going to say or do something inappropriate to her, which of course they did.

now, i don’t think any of that would have been changed one single bit by us bringing in lecturers and such. things are the way they are and we just have to roll with whatever the situation is. you can’t FORCE people to create some sort of artificial culture.

that being said, i do think that it is a good idea to bring it to the attention of kids in some of these small counties that it is more an anomaly for a county to be primarily “white” instead of being made up of all different sorts of races and cultures, if only to lessen the “culture shock” they are bound to face when they head off to college.

i went to school with kids who were as open minded as anyone, but when they got to college, developed a bit of a jaded attitude towards certain groups, and i can’t help but think that that had something to do with growing up the way we did, where we did.

so…i guess i’m saying the same thing you are…leave things alone…don’t try to create a culture that isn’t there…but i can also see the value in at least talking about these issues.

The isolated ivy covered campuses are a world unto themselves eh?

Bill Lind might have coined the phrase “Ivy covered North Koreas” with reference to the hives of ideology pollitical correctness sensitivity police

  4. TechKnomen Says:

Speaking of hives of idealogs: a plantation master’s son stepped on his one of his daddy’s honey bees and died from anaphalatic shock from the sting .

The plantation master was so blind with rage that he decided to institute a “WAR ON HONEY BEES” and
so to find out which ones would sting too easily he sent his slaves with a Louisville slugger to bang on the hives to make the bees more prone to sting come on out, and since honey bees die when they sting that should do the job?
Well after about a week all his slaves had died from massive bee stings and there were still bees in the hive and his son was still dead.

This sounds like a fictional parody and it is.

British SAS troops were caught dressed as arabs in a small compact car loaded with explosives going towards a mosque in Irag nearly 2 years ago AND

The “Proactive Preemptive Operations Group (P2OG) of the Pentagon had a budget of over 100million bucks to stir up the situation a provolk the “terrorists” to reveal themselves.

The honey in this parody is oil and the “terrorists” real or not are the bees. IF you rob bees of honey you can expect you might get stung now and then even with the most gentle of italian yellow bees selectively breed to be gentle for hundreds of years if not longer.
Those wild black bees or the hybrid african “killer” bees aside, hitting a ahive with a baseball bat to expose which ones sting the worst seem a bit provolkitive if it is not the purpose to kill all off the slaves , leaving the plantation a bit short handed and exposed to easier hostile takeover.

I guess we could just burn down the hives with some Oak Ridge fire balls.

  5. TechKnomen Says:

To cut to the chase you cant get to understand any of what motivates they that “hate us for our freedomes” unless you understand the perspectives they have on how the west has bought and coorupted and puppeteered their leaders and governments to get out the oil cheep enuff to fund the social engineering projects that they see going on.
See a rather prophetic , post-007 Sean Connery flick “Wrong is Right” for a spooky view of things to come from ~1982? where the devoute muslims strap bombs on themselves as a specticle to only kill themselves as a statement of how hopeless they saw their future of being able to determine or control their own future given the agenda for some to take over the bulk of everything west of the babalonian areas as having been supposedly histrionically justified to belong to the zionists.

Before that Ariel Sharon-e goi hater guy went into a coma he had a map depicting this on his office wall for years, did he ever die?

  6. dhunley Says:

Dave, how many Chinese do you see wearing cowboy hats and eating tex-mex? How many good old EKY folks do you see eating sushi? There is nothing innate…or hardwired…into a person that causes them to choose grits over bagels.

So ALL cultures are artificial…and that’s the rub. “Cultures” are nothing more than a set of habits and viewpoints developed by people to help them deal with the conditions in which they find themselves.

And while those habits and viewpoints may be beneficial at a certain point in time, they too often become barriers and hang-ups as conditions change. They become devices that lock people in place and prevent them from adapting as the environment changes.

It’s a pity that someone who has spent most of his life studying this stuff (as apparently Mr. Turner has) can’t think out of the little box that his “culture” has placed him in.

But not only can’t he recognize this, he’s actually helping perpetrate the very concept that hinders the personal growth of people.

And you speak of inappropriate remarks made toward the black student in your school. Well…Dave…let me tell you…if you want to hear inappropriate remarks, try being a hillbilly boy in a buckeye filled playground in Marion, Ohio! Ooooooohhhhh boooooy….LOL. Fortunately, after years of tangling with the hard-knuckled Gamble and Howard boys, I was adequately prepared to effectively discourage most “in-bred” jokes.

But even more fortunately, there were enough young Dave Campbell & dhunley type kids on that playground to provide me with a friend or two.

The capacity to make inappropriate, insensitive, and downright mean remarks to one another is universal…you’ll find it on any playground and even in any board room…and that capacity will persist as long as time lasts; the more (and the sooner) people realize this, the better. THAT’S what people like Mr. Turner should be helping our young people understand.

Dave, I sincerely believe that our educational institutions—especially our colleges, and most ESPECIALLY our “social studies” departments—are letting us down by not helping us overcome the blinkers our “cultures” have shuttered us with. They’re actually working AGAINST us in that regard.

  7. dhunley Says:

They’re ‘RULERS”…not “LEADERS” Tech…obtaining power through some kind of royal blood or military take-over. They’re not “leaders”; a distinction that the people who like to chum up with the Stalin or Castro types fail to recognize.

Tech, this junk is nothing more than a variation of “blame America”…with a little anti-Israel spice thrown in to boot.

It’s amazing to me how someone can see a boogey man behind every bush, yet can’t see something that smacks them in the face!

These muslim “fanatics” have been attacking us for almost 30 years…and they wound up pulling off an attack that eclipsed Pearl Harbor!

They murdered people, Tech. Deliberately and premeditatedly—planned during the Clinton presidency (you know, the reach-out-to-everyone guy) and long before they even knew Bush was going to be president (for those “Bush’s-war” flakes among us).

I DO NOT blame Clinton…I blame no one but the murdering thugs who planned and backed this. But just imagine if it had been Bush who had not took Bin Laden into custody when he had the chance? The moveon.org crowd would have screamed themselves hoarse about “big oil”.

    1998
Aug. 7, Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: truck bombs exploded almost simultaneously near 2 U.S. embassies, killing 224 (213 in Kenya and 11 in Tanzania) and injuring about 4,500. 4 men connected with al-Qaeda 2 of whom had received training at al-Qaeda camps inside Afghanistan, were convicted of the killings in May 2001 and later sentenced to life in prison. A federal grand jury had indicted 22 men in connection with the attacks, including Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden, who remained at large.

Here’s a list of attacks these practitioners of the “religion of peace” have inflicted upon us.

too simplistic like saying all the 14th amendment did was make all residents U.S. “c”itizens when the thang has 4 sections.

You dont want to get into any of messy stuff like known falseflag black ops from the mossaad SAS and yes P2oG.
Proping up Sad-um, or even triing to use him to assinate the Irag intel director waaay back in the late 50’s. Alot of “radical” A_rabs know this stuff and the ‘mericans are left “out of the loop” but

we should not be suspicious of any one with a operational motto of
“thru deception thou shalt do war”

WHO did 911 again? How do you “know” cause I dont and I dont think in this age you can convince anyone that is not selectively ignorant that it was some group of angry a-rabs all by themselves with box cutters, let alone that people could make cell phone calls from rural Pennsylvania saying “lets roll”
“you belive me mom its me”
(like a mom couldn’t recognise her son’s voice?
let alone calling from a cell phone) yeah I know it was supposed to be a seatback phone but not all of those calls were attributed to either.

  9. TechKnomen Says:

“wee had to do what wee had to do during the cold war and the world just needs to get over it” eh?

  10. dhunley Says:

Tech, this post reminds me of a punch line to a joke. One guy says to another “Your face is different.” The other guy says ‘I shaved my beard.” The guy looks at him closely…and says “Naaaaw, that’s not it!”

Sheeesshhh, Tech, the mental gymnastics you go through to believe what you want to believe should qualify you for the Olympics—that is, if the competition wasn’t so stiff from those on the left.

But what is it about Israel, you reckon, that draws so much hatred from the world. It shouldn’t be their “agents” snooping and trying to interfere with our government…I mean, it’s not like every single nation in the world don’t have agents trying to do that. You think the Russians, the Chinese, the Arabs, the Australians—heck, even the French “try” to do it…lol…don’t have spies and influence peddlers trying to get their way with our government?

It shouldn’t be their “land grab”, should it? What country hasn’t claimed land that they conquered during war? And all THEY got was a small piece of desert for crying out loud.

Israel is a tiny, democratic nation (with what…30 million people?) amongst a whole continent of tyrants, royalists, dictators, and other non-democratic-type countries.

They took a piece of desert—which they have as much of a claim to as any other peoples in the area—and turned it into a fruitful, productive area.

They’re trying to defend themselves against a bunch of phony “palestine’s” who think it’s alright to strap bombs to people and blow up women and children—yet THEY are the oppressors! Yeah…right…sounds like something that’d make sense to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Tech, I suspect we both know the basis of the hatred toward Israel…in fact, I think everybody knows. Unfortunately, everybody knows what’s bound to come and what is bound to happen when it does.
    Your quote below:
where the devoute muslims strap bombs on themselves as a specticle to only kill themselves as a statement of how hopeless they saw their future of being able to determine or control their own future given the agenda for some to take over the bulk of everything west of the babalonian areas as having been supposedly histrionically justified to belong to the zionists.

  11. dhunley Says:

Tech, I hear the History channel recently had a show that just tore apart all the conspiracy theories concerning 911. I heard they took them one by one and showed how false and misinformed they were.

Of course…lol…these won’t deter them one bit. They’ll just attack the source—instead of the info—saying the people are bought off, or illuminati, or—HEAVEN FORBID—was pulled off at the beckoning of Israel, eh?

    Have a good one!

  12. TechKnomen Says:

You quoted a portion of my description of the Sean Connery Flick “WRONG IS RIGHT” why not quote the whole quote?

The hystronic channel is owned by 4star General Electric and Hurst Publishing and Disney all totally objective and pure as the driven snow; they even let the fairys have weddings at their castle now, how nice and conservative?

I guess you heard about another “NeonaziNeocon” militant love triangle resulting in death in fluorida last week? I’d post a link but you can find it. without me having to be ‘moderated’?

  13. TechKnomen Says:

What is it with several of these gay politicians, is that how they get higher up in the power structure by having something to be blackmailed with?

Some string to marionette them with?

Not to just pick on neocons, the watergate plumbers supposedly got caught because they went back for the other Rolodex as they had just got the one with the regular ole prostitutes and not the perverts index of entertainment.

  14. TechKnomen Says:

Just re-reading this and DOES IT MATTER WHETHER THEY ARE RULERS OR LEADERS if the U.S. Put them in?

The Arab community wont accept them as their leaders if the west facilitated their installation unless we kill all those but the sunni minority or which ever wants Malilki’s regeme’ and that don’t include Persia/Iran.

The West is blamed for Sadaam and the Shaw of Iran whether or not we replaced elected Rulers or leaders with them.

The OPEC crowd is seen as stooges of the west as to sell oil it has to be dollarised by purchace of T-bills so they own a bunch of our “national debt” (not to be question 14th amendment federal subject BTW)

So the less than completely ignorant towel heads even want a gold Denar for the whole of the Arab community, and I cant blame them at all. We are supposed to have a bi-metallic monitary system not a monitised debt/credit system! “Congress” non-constitutionally passed the 1913 Federal Reserve Act and its been debauching the real money system ever since. “Bad Money Repaces good” and
“Your silver has turned to dross”
    comes to mind?

Does that mean UNITED STATES, United States, Union of the States, or just plain U.S.?

welll I have seen write ups on the concept that U.S. was incorporated in the busness district of London in 1874? or some post war betwix the “Several States”(which is another word-of-art to decribe the States of the Union) then there is the whole capitolization thing: is State and state the the same; are citizen and Citizen the same; worthy of some research, yes; I have even visted the online listings for OH,NC and KY (are they incorporated entities) the attorney’s general for those have had listings for U.S.A. inc and MOREHEAD, KENTUCKY inc. and other weird listings that leave one stratching the head a bit but
several of the states orginally were chartered corpos/colonies enterprises for profit right? We did a hostile takeover of those from 1775 t0 1789 and 1812-1819 right?

  18. name (required) Says:

I thought so too until I started looking at all of the “official” paperwork that they don’t show us in school. Not to mention the CORPS that you named… So it’s got me wondering if we’re not still under British rule.
Several other things in conjunction with those things as named above have just about brought me to a conclusion that we may well be.

  19. TechKnomen Says:

Unless that was some engimatic pun;(?) The praenomen (plural praenomina) was the ancient Roman given name. With a nomen and a cognomen it formed a complete Roman name which some say is what is in all caps on the SS no the nazi SS socialist number but the TIN number everyone calls a social security number of name.

Of course it is not your name or number or you could change it without asking permision.
Names are given to imply ownership that why when someone asks me for my name I say
“I dont have a name, I am __________”(fill in the blank with your (Nomen and Cognomen) the family appellation is not exclusively yours either.

I first started talking about these type issues a few years(9?) ago locally and a GOP/Shrine guy one day said: “You don’t have to tell everything you know” like it was a message sent from “they” er somethin?

Years ago, I heard some patriot guy at a meeting say that when talking to a lawyer from the KY Sec. of STATE,(inc.?)

that he was not aware that there were any State Citizen’s left?
(capitalizations were not made apparent in the speech given as I recall)

    “They” may be operating a shellgame of debt and Trust entities set up to manage our affairs for us as we are seen by the courts as incapable of management of ourselves, there are technical words of art to that effect that I can’t recall at the moment;

Constructive fraud comes to mind don’t it?

It may be rationalised by some of the good and talented at the higher escellons as the only solutions to avoid being completely governed by the Vatican or the Crown openly as part of the Empire of the usery crowd (Rothchilds Rockerfeller and such)

After 911 a whole raft of reorganizions occured (in banqruptsy?)

New incorporations and names filed in Delware and the London Business district where even the royals cant wear their accouterments of power (crown and such) by some treaty or contract?

Alot of crap has been done it the name of a raft of religeons and intellectualism is no exception; nature abors a vaccume and to attemp to say you have no religion or faith is dishonest; you have faith in something, just not the most high, or the most logical, or the most reasonable faith left other than self worship; which is what you have if you say you “know” anything philosophically speaking.
