well, here we are!

By dave • Jul 2nd, 2007 • Category: Site Stuff

sadly, i had a GREAT ‘how-to/faq’ written up, but it got lost in a database migration, so i’m going to have to work up another one…the basics, however, were to tell you that in the Comments section on this site, you can use good old-fashioned HTML code to add links, images, bold text, etc…

I’ll work on getting that page fixed right quick, but for now, i’m tired and i’m going to bed.

if you’ve made it over here, welcome!…and i hope you like it. i am going to be adding things fast and furious-like over the next 24 hours hopefully, so things could change quite a bit, but hopefully, it will all be for the better!

    I hope you all don’t mind me experimenting a little. I think that I understand the image tags, and if I’m right about the code, this might help some of us.

    This code should put a picture on this page…

    If it worked, you will see the code above.

    To post a picture just replace what is between the “” with the address of your picture.

  2. nighthawk Says:

    Why can’t I see the picture with the code on it Dave?

  3. dave Says:

    hmm…

    let me try one here…

    if that worked, you’ll see a picture of the msu eagle…

  4. nighthawk Says:

    I used the code shown on this picture.

    I think i’m useing the wrong markup, but it’s basic html.

  5. dave Says:

    mine isn’t working either.

    how about a link?

  6. dave Says:

    ok..mine worked. let me see if i can add yours now, nighthawk…

    <img src=”http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x83/nh_shared/?action=view&current=imagetag.jpg”>

    if it works, make sure you are enclosing that URL inside the “quote” marks.

    ok…it did NOT work…it doesn’t like the photobucket tag for some reason…let me do some research and i’ll get back to you…

  7. dave Says:

    trying yours again nighthawk…

    i suspect this one IS going to work, so i’ll tell you what i did.

    view the image on photobucket that you want to add, and then click the “exif data” tag, down there underneath the name of the image. that will open up a set of information, including the URL to use to insert the image into another web page. i think the link you were using had some unacceptable characters in it.

  8. nighthawk Says:

    I have removed the characters so this should work.

    If you can see the html code above then it’s the correct format to post a picture. Replace the address of my picture between the quotation marks “” with the address of your picture.

  9. nighthawk Says:

    Trying one last time…

  10. nighthawk Says:

    Maybe it’s a permissions thing. I just can’t get it to work for one reason or another.

    Trying without quotation marks this time.

  11. dave Says:

    OK…it WAS a permissions thing, of sorts. the image tag was not one of the allowed tags in comments, unless you are an admin. i have now remedied that, and all subscribers can post images now (don’t make me sorry for that, anyone!!) :)

    here’s the proper format for inserting an image tag:

    <img src="http://path-to-the-image.com/image-name.jpg">

    of course, it could be a jpg, or a gif, or whatever other format…you get the idea. but that’s how you write the tag to insert an image. give it a shot!

    Hey, I was just thinking… and I didnt see a site suggestion link anywhere, but I have an idea. Maybe you guys will like it.

    It just dawned on me that the site colors are the official rowan county high and msu colors, Green and Blue.

    So I was thinking that a picture of the rowan county viking on one side and the msu eagle on the other side would look good. Just an idea, but I thought you guys might like it.

    Looks like I over did it with the Mary Kay makeover! ;;)

    Help this isn’t working for me.

  15. nighthawk Says:

    Just testing some things :mrgreen:

    should be able to put a picture here :arrow:

  16. nighthawk Says:

    I have the pictures down now. Guess i have to work on learning the code for smilies, or are the ones above the only ones allowed? :confused:

  17. nighthawk Says:

    I put this on another thread by accident. It might make more sence over on this thread

    :oops: According to a table at http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Smilies the code that I used should have worked. What am I doing wrong?
